Karkey Karadeniz Holding: Powering the World with Innovation

What began as a local industrial venture has grown over 77 years into a worldwide energy industry powerhouse. With a strong base rooted in Turkiye's industrial legacy, Karkey Karadeniz Holding has continually displayed innovation, resilience, and a spirit of progress.

Paving the Way to Turkiye's Energy Future

The company took its first giant stride into the energy industry in 1996. Since, Karadeniz Holding has advanced to be a pioneer in the field of energy in Turkiye. It has the distinction of being the first company to be granted a license for wholesale sales of electricity, of conducting the first cross-border power export in the country and of being the first private company to import electricity from Europe. Today, the company has an installed capacity domestically of 250 MW and continues to grow its presence through investments in thermal, geothermal and solar energy installations.

Pioneering Global Energy with Powerships

Karkey Karadeniz Holding's most pioneering project was developed in 2007 as the floating power plant concept called Powership. Mobile power stations are ships or platforms designed and built to be able to run using LNG, natural gas and fuel oil. With the subsidiary of Karadeniz Holding, the international brand of the holding, new horizons in the sector of electricity generation were introduced. Karpowership was characterized by high flexibility, short response times, and scalability. Karpowership the world's first and only owner of floating power plants (50 vessels with installed capacity over 10,000 MW). Managing the Powership fleet under its international brand, Karpowership, Karadeniz Holding generates electricity at 18 locations across Africa and Asia.

Satisfying Energy Demands Across the Continents

Karadeniz Holding's Powership fleet is currently serving 18 locations and providing anywhere from 10% to 100% of the national electricity demand of many countries. These include Ghana (23%), Mozambique (10%), Gambia (60%), Sierra Leone (60%), Guinea-Bissau (100%), Senegal (21%), Guinea-Conakry (12.5%) and the Ivory Coast (7.5%). These floating power solutions allow countries to avoid the long building times associated with infrastructure. It means instantaneous access to reliable power for economic development, health care and education.
